About Us
Common Ground Community Inc. is a non-profit organization that is operated and ran by volunteers. Without volunteers and the heart of people for people CGC Inc. would not be possible.
There are many opportunitites for you to jump in and get involved in the community in Cedar Grove. We would love to meet you, show you around and encourage you to find your area of involvement in the community.
Helps
Programs that help those in our community in everyday life.
Current programs include:
Thursday Meal 5-6 p.m. in the Community Center. We need help with setup, preparing food, serving and cleaning up. There are always needs associated with our meals. This program takes the most volunteers to make it work smoothly each week so we have a special and enjoyable time together as we share a meal with our friends.
Clothing Room & Grocery Help. After each Thursday meal we open a room where our friends can pick out clothes. Everything in this room is an in-kind donations. We also pass out groceries to each family that attends our meal. The amount of groceries that each family receives depends upon how many donations we receive throughout the week. Our shelves in the food pantry are always in need of food. We welcome donations of food (non-perishable and perishable), clothing, household goods, appliances, etc. . . Please contact Mr. Brian for making arrangements to drop off donations.
Friendship Room/Adult Education. At the Community Center we have a space dedicated for our adults. It is a safe place that is climate controlled for adults to meet, rest and gather with others. From time to time, we have educational programs offered to the community. Currently, we have a few adults seeking their GED's, and we like to offer more educational programs to those in our community.
Community Garden. Across East 68th Street from the center is our Community Garden and Greenhouse. Throughout the year, we grow vegetables, flowers and other items. Patty Leeth is our director of all things green over there. We have children programs, schools that use the garden for educational purposes, as well as use the items we raise for feeding the community. If you are interested in connecting with this program please, contact Patty Leeth.
Saturday Morning Homeless Walks. Each Saturday, we load up in the van and travel around the city and visit with some of the homeless (outdoor friends) that we have made. We bring food, coffee and supplies to them. If you are interested in joining us for one of these Saturdays, you can by arriving at the Center at 9 a.m. We usually depart at 9:30 a.m.
Tuesday Community Men's Fellowship Group. Each Tuesday night 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Community Chapel men meet to share, discuss, read scripture and me in community with one another. Join us this week.
Homework Help. Currently, we serve children in helping them with their studies. We meet in the tutoring area of the center on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. during school days. If you enjoy working with children, reading a book or assisting a child with a worksheet, we could use your help. If you want to connect with this very special program, please contact Lisa Cronin or Sarah Marsalis-Luginbill.
Summer Day Camp. During the summer months, Common Ground runs a summer day camp for a few hours each day Monday - Thursday. There are educational and spiritual type of activities. Lunch is always a part of the day’s activities since most of the children are not in school to receive free lunches. Common Ground has a internship program that makes the Summer Day Camp possible. If you are a college student looking for a Summer Internship for 2012, please contact Lisa Cronin to get an application.
U2 Saturdays. The Second Saturday of each month we have some sort of Community Program and activity for everyone. The theme changes throughout the year. Sometimes there are Community Garden activities, reading programs, work day project at the Community Center, etc.

Building Common Ground is our new adventure in construction and home improvements in the Cedar Grove Area. We are working with area builders and individuals to provide affordable housing and home repairs. More info coming soon. If you are a contractor or someone interested in investing or assisting in this type of program, please contact Phil Gates.
